The role is a major contributor in research and development efforts designing and building thin-film deposition equipment based on novel CVD processes. In addition, the engineer will support application specific projects demonstrating the equipment capabilities, and exploring new materials for thin-film applications.

Chemical Engineer (CVD) – Research & Development

ULTRA t Equipment Company is seeking an experienced Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Engineer to join our new-equipment design, build, and test team. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on the development of next-generation thin-film deposition equipment and processes for the microelectronics industry. This position is ideal for an engineer or scientist with deep experience in CVD processes who wants to play a key role in commercializing innovative deposition technologies. The successful candidate will contribute directly to research and development efforts, equipment design, process development, testing, and customer application projects.
About the Role:
As a Chemical Engineer, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop and optimize advanced thin-film deposition systems. This role combines process development, equipment engineering, materials science, and applied research. The position requires practical, hands-on experience with CVD technologies and the ability to independently drive technical projects from concept through implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, build, and test advanced CVD thin-film deposition equipment.
Develop and optimize plasma-enhanced, laser-enhanced, and other energy-assisted CVD processes.
Support application-specific projects demonstrating equipment capabilities and evaluating new thin-film materials.
Design and improve vacuum systems, gas delivery systems, and process monitoring approaches.
Analyze process performance and experimental results to guide development decisions.
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams on system-level equipment design.
Contribute to product commercialization efforts within a fast-paced R&D environment.
Document technical work through reports, presentations, publications, and project reviews.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree minimum in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related engineering/science discipline.
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
Minimum 5 years of post-degree professional experience with CVD thin-film deposition technologies.
Strong experience with plasma-enhanced, laser-enhanced, or other energy-assisted CVD methods.
Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, building, operating, and troubleshooting thin-film deposition equipment.
Experience with vacuum systems, process monitoring, characterization techniques, and process analysis.
Ability to independently execute complex technical projects and contribute to multidisciplinary R&D programs.
Example technical report, publication, presentation, thesis, dissertation, or similar documentation demonstrating relevant experience.
Preferred Experience & Skills: Candidates with experience in several of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:
Photochemistry concepts and applications.
Laser systems, optics, laser sources, and integration.
Thin-film precursor chemistry and materials development.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA), particularly fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, gas-flow modeling, and process engineering related to CVD systems.
Cleanroom operations and semiconductor manufacturing environments.
Molecular and materials characterization techniques.
Design of Experiments (DOE) and analysis of complex data sets.
Project management and technical leadership of research programs.
SolidWorks CAD and complete process-system design.
Microelectronics product and application development.
Familiarity with SEMI, CE, UL, and related industry standards.
Technical presentations, publications, customer engagement, or technical sales support.
